1864 Half Dollar, Toned PR66 Sharp and Attractive

1864 50C PR66 PCGS Secure. Vivid blue and lavender toning resides in the centers on this Premium Gem proof, ceding to bright yellow-gold and mint-green hues around the borders. This razor-sharp proof is beautifully preserved and has tremendous visual appeal. The 1864 proof is rarely offered this fine. PCGS lists two Deep Cameos in PR66, but most of the coins known in this condition are non-Cameos. This piece might have garnered a Cameo designation were it not for the attractive toning on each side. Population: 8 in 66 (1 in 66+), 1 finer; 2 in 66 Deep Cameo, (9/18). (NGC ID# 27TR, PCGS# 6418)

1856-O Half Dollar, MS65 Rich Peripheral Patina

1856-O 50C WB-101, Die Pair 2, R.4, MS65 PCGS Secure. Bands of blue-green and autumn-brown endow the borders of this lustrous and virtually unabraded Gem. The sole apparent imperfection is an incomplete strike on the fletchings and left (facing) claw. The 1856-O is readily obtained in well-circulated condition, but the antebellum issue becomes rare at the MS65 level. Population (all varieties included): 22 in 65, 3 finer (9/18). 1799 Draped Bust Dollar, Sharp AU50 B-9, BB-166, 7x6 Stars

1799 $1 7x6 Stars, B-9, BB-166, R.1, AU50 PCGS.  Bowers Die State II. A sharp, even die impression is a hallmark of this  coin, and the sharpness of the AU detail allows it to be fully  appreciated by the viewer. No adjustment marks are visible, and luster  remains in the fields, especially around the borders. Barely a brush of  wear is visible. Warm orange-gold, olive, and lilac-blue toning  encompasses each side, masking a few trivial contact marks on each side.  (NGC ID# 24X7, Variety PCGS# 40057, Base PCGS# 6878)

1799 $1 7x6 Stars, B-10, BB-163, R.2, XF45 NGC

1799 $1 7x6 Stars, B-10, BB-163, R.2, XF45 NGC. One of the more plentiful varieties of 1799 and collectible at the Choice XF level. Both sides show deeply toned charcoal-gray color. This is a well-struck example with typical die cracks on the reverse, and no adjustment marks. A few small abrasions are reported on Liberty's cheek and hair.  Ex: Palm Beach Signature (Heritage, 3/2006), lot 1625, where it realized $4,046.
